#909 SD Padres vs. #910 Anaheim Angels @710est
Clevinger (R) ERA 3.18 facing Heaney (L) ERA 4.62 The 29-year-old Clevinger last pitched Aug. 26 for the Indians, and he’ll take the mound in Thursday’s series finale after being acquired by the Friars ahead of Monday’s trade deadline. Clevinger has a 3.18 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 21:11 K:BB through 22.2 innings this season. He has relied primarily on his Fourseam Fastball (95mph) and Slider (82mph), also mixing in a Curve (79mph), Change (87mph) and Cutter (89mph).
He is facing Heaney, who was absolutely filthy Friday, tossing 71 of his 104 pitches for strikes while registering a season-high mark for strikeouts. Heaney was coming off three straight starts allowing four or more runs, so this should be a big confidence booster for the southpaw. His next scheduled start will come at home in a tough matchup against the Padres. He has relied primarily on his Sinker (92mph) and Curve (79mph), also mixing in a Change (83mph).
San Diego has won four of its last five games so it has been playing well lately while Los Angeles has lost each of its last three games. Give me the road team.
